Social preferences as sanctions neutralization tools: A laboratory analysis

Abstract

Sanctions as economic warfare tools can be effective in People's dissatisfaction with the government. This influence is largely related to the social preferences towards the government. This article examines the effects of social preferences, with emphasis on religious preferences, on sanctions neutralization. We examine whether religious people in a sanctioned conditions, contribute to religious government? In this research is used public good game and religiousness questionnaire of players with the laboratory analysis. The questionnaire analysis shows a significant relationship between religiosity and religious government support in the sanction conditions. Also, the results showed that individuals with religious preferences have further partnership to neutralize the effect of sanctions. Therefore, the religious government, with the strengthening of this group in the community, can go strong with the backing of sanctions. On the other hand, proper management of public opinion and people's preferences can reduce the pressure from economic sanctions.
